Frequently Asked Questions

Are we able to operate legally?

Yes! We are a registered 508(c)(1)(a) Religious Organization with a full-time children's ministry. Due to this, we can operate independently of government licensure, allowing us to provide a more personalized and independent approach to education.

Are you currently enrolling new families?

Absolutely! We're currently in the enrollment phase, gathering information from families interested in joining Connecticut Cross Academy. Completing an application form doesn't constitute enrollment; it's part of the process each family must complete.

Where are you located?

We are currently located in Shelton, CT at a facility that has met our program needs this current school year. We have secured a building at 1 Positive Place in the city of Shelton for the 2025-2026 school year.

What grades are currently offered?

We are actively enrolling students from Kindergarten through 6th grade. We are also accepting a prospective list for 7th-8th grade. We will eventually expand to High School, however, in the meantime, high school students may be offered special drop-in courses. (You may still apply if you only have a child in high school who would want to be a part of our special course classes).

What will be the student-teacher ratio in each classroom?

We are capping our classes at 12-14 students. We believe in maintaining an individualized approach and upholding excellence, necessitating smaller classroom sizes.

What curriculum will you be using?

We will be using a variety of curricula across subjects at CCA. All curricula selected and taught will be from a Biblical Worldview. The majority of our curricula will be Abeka and Master Books based with some exceptions.

How much will this cost?

We have established our costs for the 2025-2026 academic year on our Tuition & Fees page.

What are the school day hours?

The school day will begin at 8:15 AM. Drop-off will be from 7:50-8:10. Students are expected to arrive on time. The day will conclude at 2:00 PM. Pick up is expected to be prompt.

Upon arrival, students will be dropped off in the main gym. Our day will begin there with an all school time of worship, prayer, devotional followed by physical fitness. Studies have shown that integrating physical activity into the school day, particularly in the morning, has been associated with enhanced cognitive functions such as alternantes, concentration, and memory. Engaging in moderate to vigorous exercise increases blood flow to the brain, which can also improve cognitive performance!

Are we a church?

Yes! Connecticut Cross Academy is a separate and lawful private organization, operating solely as a faith-based church, in accordance with Title 26 USC section 508(c)(1)(a). This means that Connecticut Cross Academy is a not for-profit entity of any kind and is entirely separate from any publicly traded or governmental organization. We are governed by Judeo-Christian principles though we do not have pastors, deacons, elders, etc.

Are there requirements to join?

Yes! Each family must apply to be a part of Connecticut Cross Academy. An evaluation of each application will take place to ensure that the families who seek to be a part of our community, align with our mission and core values. Once accepted, families must also complete a membership agreement form to solidify their commitment to our organization.

Will you accept students with special needs or learning disabilities?

At this time we are unable to enroll students with learning disabilities or excessive behavioral needs.

Are vaccinations required?

We believe that it is the parent/guardians right to decide what is best for their children and family. We do not require or request any vaccination records.

What are the next steps once I've applied?

Once our enrollment phase has been completed, you will be contacted directly once your application has been reviewed and if there are any other follow up questions. CCA may request to meet with new families for an interview prior to acceptance. All students entering kindergarten (full-time) will be required to complete a kindergarten readiness assessment. Upon acceptance, membership & deposit fees will be due along with the additional documents and membership agreements.
